Time for real after ski, Åre style

there are a few stop left on the way down

After a good day of skiing, it’s time to head down the mountain. It’s time for after ski. Åre style. I assume you have taken my advice and enjoyed a late, long lunch at Hummelstugan or some of the other on-slope restaurants in the central ski area. If so, you should be in a good mood, and ready for some new excitement.

This in mind, the first stop on your journey down to the village will be Hotel Fjällgården. An establishment with over 100 years of history, serving city people with fresh air and great party since it’s birth in 1910.

afterski at Fjällgården, probably the best after ski in the world

The Hotel is located in the middle of the slopes at the top station of the old mountain tramway. According to Carlsberg, this is probably the best after ski in the world. And yes, it’s crazy in there. Make sure you set your plan straight with your buddies before entering the front door. Once you arrive at the bar, you can’t make your voice heard.

But this is not the end, you are not down the mountain yet. Put the skis back on and move forward down over the ski bridge to the slope Stjärnbacken. Take it easy on your way down, the obstacles in the slope are not moguls, they are party animals struggling to get their ass down the slope.

Midway down this slope, you will pass by Hyddan, Another party house. If you are in to hooking arms with your neighbor, sitting at a long-table, sing along, this will be heaven for you. Every other move on forward to Timmerstugan.

The legendary party at Timmerstugan

Throughout the season, there’s a party going on at Timmerstugan. Unfortunately, you might miss the most legendary ones depending on what month you take this tour or how long you lingered at the places before. But if you hit the right day around Easter, you will find yourself stumbling in on the craziest race and party of them all, the Red Bull Home run.

500 skiers of varying skills racing down the mountain in a Chinese downhill. To get an idea of what that’s about, you can check it out here. However, after ski and Red Bull Home run is a total different story later to be told. For those who missed out skiing, there are several bars around the square happy to serve and throw an after ski party as well.

Åres original burger shack “Broken” is everyday piling up with skiers and non skiers, and here are the local ski bum community to be found. The after ski at Broken is more than seldom endless. Party posers get in line down at Verandan (“Dippan” as the locals still call it) where the original Åre after ski once started. Enjoy your party and remember; there is a day tomorrow as well!
