Nermo Hotel at Hafjell has a long history serving prominent ski guests in Gudbrandsdalen. Much longer than the ski resort Hafjell itself.
This farmstead and hotel has been in the hands of the Nermo family since 1866, and the Nermo’s have been serving travelers and adventure seekers ever since.
Today’s main building bear the signs of the 1930s. This due to a heavy fire that took the whole farm back in 1932. The hotel was promptly resurrected as a top-notch establishment of the time.

The owner back in the 1930s, Johannes Nermo senior, had big plans for alpine skiing down the Øyerfjellet (Hafjell). He initiated the first ski slope. And in 1939, Øyer was the host of the alpine student world championship. Without a ski lift.
As the Germans invaded Norway in 1940 and picked the Nermo Hotel as their base, skiing and tourism stopped. No lifts were built. Today’s owner, the grandson of Johannes, carries the same name and the family tradition of serving guests. He left his mark on the newest expansion of this farmstead hotel, the Nermo Stabbur suites.

The Nermo Stabbur suites in Hafjell is something extraordinary
Two unique four hundred-year-old tiny log houses have been moved to a prime spot on the premises under Johannes supervision. Restored to four top modern luxury suites, overlooking Gudbrandsdalen.
Entering the door to one of those dream houses, and you are in hotel heaven. The rustic cabin vibe is present, it’s an old building, but it’s also very contemporary.
___
Your first impression is the small hallway, here you have your honesty bar. Coffee and tea are, of course, included. And there is a vine cooler filled with at great verity of vines and champagne to fit your taste.
The main room is totally dominated by a kingsize continental Svane bed. I can assure you that you will sleep like a princess. No television is present, instead a remote-controlled fireplace.
The window is hanging on the sidewall like a painting. Two resting chairs and that’s it. Your pulse will go down to resting mode as soon as the first exaltation has settled.
Your private SPA in the next room
If the bedroom dates back to the seventeenth century, the bathroom is totally twenty-first century. A huge window facing the valley.
A wooden tub with plenty of room for two is lowered into the floor. Dark tiles on the floor and walls calms the feeling. A selection of different massage oils is ready for your convenience.
___
My advice, start tapping hot water into the tub at once. It will take some time to fill it up. Chose your taste of champagne from the cooler and pour two classes. This is your moment in ski hotel heaven.
Nermo is a Classic mountain hotel with ambiance
If you, for some reason, chose not to stay in the Stabbur suites. The main building offers classic hotel rooms with great views over the valley.
Nermo is a small boutique hotel and there is a family atmosphere inside. Food is prepared with love and care out of green stuff from Gudbrandsdalen, and with meat from their own farm.
Before and after dinner, there are several rooms and sitting areas with fireplaces for your convenience. Here you can have a drink, a chat or play some table games.
When you go skiing in Hafjell, Nermo is with no doubt the top selection for accommodation and dinner. The Nermo’s also runs the best on-slope restaurant. Vidsyn, located on top of the Hafjell mountain.
They offer a wienerschnitzel made on veal from the Nermo farm. You will not be served any better schnitzel than this on-slope in Norway.
