Austria is renowned for their pensions. Small scaled private owned family business. You are often served half-board take it or leave it style. That’s what we expected when we reserved a room at Hotel Berghof i Söll, located just 10 minutes from the boarder crossing in Kufstein.
___
It turned out that Hotel Berghof is more than just another family pension. During the past fifty years, the family Eisenmann has developed their family business from a small pension to a four-star hotel. A little more than an hour drive from the Munich international airport and just a few minutes away from the first gondola in SkiWelt, Austria’s biggest ski system. The location is a perfect starting point for a skitrotter entering the alps.
Be prepared for Easter bunnies
The hotel in terms of pure volume has outgrown both the family pension suit and boutique size, but still feels like one. It’s family and friendly. All guests are welcome, but at the first glimpse it looks like the preferred guests are families traveling with children together with party lovers.
There is always a theme going on. Outside there is an after ski hut with loud music at the bar and a kids theme park. An odd mix indeed.
Christmas, Easter, Halloween or something else is always on schedule. Arriving in mid-February, meeting Easter bunnies all over the property. Despite being two months left to Easter. This was not in our expectations. But it will certainly please the youngsters if you travel with your kids.
The hotel is tidy and clean. Relaxed and quiet as well. If there is a party going on in the lobby bar or in the after ski hut, you will not notice it when in your room.
An outstanding sauna world
Yes, they do have saunas. Not just one. There is a whole world of saunas. 350 square meters of wellness. One of the best we have visited according to size of the hotel.
The Berghof has named it the Vitalwelt
As a dedicated skier, traveling as a couple, this is a sole reason to choose Hotel Berghof. Here you can find all sorts of relaxations after a long day on the ski slopes. Except the multiple sauna experience, here are two outdoor hot tubs for your convenience.

What about the food served at Hotel Berghof?
The restaurant has ambitions, and the four meal dinner courses that were served as part of the half-board met up to our expectations. There were choices to be made in advance but still enough choices to satisfy the different tastes of your traveling party.
This is above average. And the breakfast had everything you could wish for, far from the standard tea and brötchen you can get at the small pensions. All in all, I must say that the Hotel Berghof is full of surprises. The first impression is a little crazy when it comes to decoration, but the service is serious. I can see how they earned four stars. It is indeed deserved.
